Day 60 : 21st July, 2012- Kotor, Montenegro

It was 10 a.m. The hostelers in the adjoining room were up and were getting ready. Last night I had counted 6 beds which were vacant till 3 a.m. And so it meant that they came afterwards. My double bed, being used just by me, was very comfortable.

I had gone out at 7 a.m. Some restaurants were ope.  There is a good market of fresh vegetables, fruits and cheese. I made a mental note of trying some local cheese with some fresh or dry figs. The market had an abundance of mushrooms as well. But these were to be cooked. I came back to my room after an hour. The hostel reception opened at 9 a.m. I took a shower and had my breakfast. There was not much to do. There were small towns by the side of the coast which were separated by a 15-20 minutes drive. Tomorrow I would go to Podgorica, the capital of Montenegro. It would be a 2 hrs drive.

12.30 p.m.: I was on my way to ‘Perast’. It was another town which was a 15 minutes drive away. I came down to the hostel and met the owner Salavenko who was standing outside on the lane. He was very upset because some hostellers had given a bad remark on the cleanliness of the hostel. I consoled him and suggested him to find out the reasons for the same. I told him about my programme to change the conversation and he told me that I must visit ‘Perast’ as it was a very good town, and that it even had an island. The bus was at 12.35 p.m. I walked to the Bus stand and bought a ticket for 2 Euros. I met the Dinish boy and girl who were waiting for the bus in which we came. THe boy had lost his reading glasses and hoped to get it back.
The bus dropped us at the town of Perast after a 20 minutes drive from Kotor. The driver told that he would come back at 4 p.m. to go back to Kotor. There were 3-4 other travelers who got down. One of them was from France and was staying in the adjoining dormitory in the hostel. We introduced each other and then started walking. After a 15 minutes’ walk into the village, we reached an old museum. There were some old women selling Kiorshia (lace work). It was a beautiful piece of art and I took a picture. Taxi Boats were going to the Island in front. A two way ticket which included a thirty minutes stay was priced at 5 Euros. We both took a ticket and boarded the water taxi. The water was very calm, there were no waves and the water was good for swimming. There was nothing to see on the island except an old church. 15 minutes were enough but the boat came back in another 45 minutes. We reached the shore later only to be told that the bus would come back by 4 p.m., so we walked a bit and then sat down in a restaurant. I ordered coffee for both of us and French Person,  Alex asked for cream in hisr coffe., He told me that he had been selected in France’s Foreign Service. He paid the bill and I paid for his ticket for the bus, which arrived at 4.10 p.m. I got down at old town and came to the Hostel and took rest. I ate bread with yesterday’s vegetables and yoghurt. At 6 pm, I took a shower and went down to the reception and did internet work. I had sent day 55  of my log but partly.  I walked to the Super Market and bought dinner of cooked rice, baked fish and vegetables. The Rice and fish were delicious here. I slowly walked back to the hostel  and kept bag in the dormitory kitchen.  Tthe owner Slavenko requested for my company at a nearby restaurant. I recorded his views on Montenegro, its future and his impression of Indian who had visited last year. At 11 pm, I came back to the room and had my dinner at. By 12.30 a.m., I was tired and so went to sleep. It is 12.30 a.m. now.
